Choose Cruelty Free
Are you aware that many of our everyday products – cosmetics, shampoos, perfumes, oven cleaners and pesticides – have been tested on animals before they reach the market?
The tests include:
- Draize Test, where a product is dripped into the eyes of restrained rabbits;
- LD50 (lethal dose 50%), where a product is force-fed to animals (often dogs) to determine the quantity at which 50% of the animals die; and
- Skin Irritancy Tests, where products are applied directly to the shaven, and sometimes abrased, skin of an animal – often rabbits.
However there are some companies that do not test their products, nor their ingredients, on animals. Instead, they use alternative non-animal tests or use only ingredients that are already known to be safe for human use.
Choose Cruelty Free is an organization that keeps a register of which companies do not conduct, nor commission out, product testing. Check their Preferred Products List
to discover which companies are cruelty-free.
